Core Gameplay

The player starts off each day at a “bulletin board” or “dash board” – detailing sales progress, appointments, new leads, money, company memos, and more.  While in this mode, time stands still.  Once you exit this mode, the core gameplay begins.

Your job is to find leads, call leads, and close leads.  Some leads will take several attempts before you can sell them.  Some will need to be called back at a later time.  You’ll need to remember when they need to be called.  Each day is clocked…so some leads will need to be called at “opportune”times.  This is a judgment call in many cases.

You’ll find leads through several resources: management, cold calls, co-workers’ trash cans, office building personnel and shoppers, e-mail, and more.  Leads are in abundance, if you dig deep enough.  But collecting leads devours time, and leads do expire.

Calling leads is the main function of the game.  In this mode, you’ll see a live shot of the buyer while they are talking on the phone with you.  Based on body language, environment, and timing, you’ll need to ask questions or small talk or you may need to get pushy.  Based on personality, you may either attract or repel the buyer you’re trying to sell.  Essentially, a “call” replaces the “battles” typically found in RPGs.

As you make more “calls”, you’ll earn experience, and you’ll gain access to new closes and techniques.  Using these techniques in the right order will net you a sale!

Each technique costs time…Time is a necessary evil in this game, if you use too little, the customer will not trust you.  If you use too much, you’ll lose the opportunity to make more sales.

As the game progresses, you’ll be promoted to new departments, selling ever more complex widgets.  Customers will become more demanding, and follow through will become ever more important.  After each sale, you’ll have to process paperwork & delivery.  This, too, consumes time.  Later, you’ll have the opportunity to hire assistants and buy equipment that will save you time.

You’ll also win money with each sale.  This money can be used to buy new skills, office equipment and décor, as well as advertising campaigns intended to boost your incoming calls.
